Algeria remains attached to the past complexes while terrorists strategy has changed
8/25/2008

Algeria is still attached to past complexes, including the " Moroccan complex" and the obsession of regional hegemony, when terrorists have changed their methods and strategies, stressed Monday the Lebanese daily "Al-Mostaqbal.

In an article on the security situation in Algeria, entitled: "Algeria and regional cooperation in the war on terrorism", Khairallah Khairallah wrote that Algeria, after a lull in recent years, currently pays the price of its leaders position who do not want to admit that the fight against terrorism remains dependent on effective regional cooperation. "

The Moroccan complex "is that Algeria still contesting the Kingdom's sovereignty over its southern provinces, thus unwilling to accept the Moroccan autonomy initiative in the Sahara which offers an honourable exit for all parties, he said, noting that the Polisario Front is in reality a tool in the hands of Algerian security services ...

If the Algerian authorities are serious in their fight against terrorism, he continued, they should be aware of the need to develop a new strategy based on regional cooperation, as they must realize that "the rivalry with Morocco and the refusal to open borders between the two countries only serves the interests of terrorists who take advantage of the absence of regional cooperation".
