Morocco's FM Receives UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations

Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita, received on Monday in Rabat UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix, who is on his second official visit to Morocco.

Discussions between the two parties focused on the Kingdom of Morocco’s major role and its substantial and exemplary contribution to United Nations peacekeeping operations.

The Kingdom’s contribution stems from a Royal Strategic Vision rooted in the continuity of its longstanding commitment to UN peacekeeping operations, dating back to 1960.

Morocco, currently ranked ninth among the largest troop-contributing countries to UN peacekeeping operations, chairs the UN Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) for the year 2026 and serves as the coordinator of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on Peacekeeping issues, which attests to the trust put in the Kingdom at the international community level on matters related to international peace and security.

Lacroix’s visit coincides with the launch of sweeping reform initiatives by the UN Secretary-General, both as part of the “UN 80” aimed at simplifying and streamlining the UN Secretariat, as well as within the framework of the strategic and comprehensive review of all peacekeeping operations, and the international peace and security architecture, with a view to restoring the primacy of politics in conflict management.
