10/22/2019

Dominica described, on Wednesday at the UNGA 4th Committee, the autonomy initiative as a "serious and credible proposal" to solve the artificial dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

"We think that the Moroccan autonomy initiative, presented to the Security Council on April 11, 2007, is a serious and credible proposal for the resolution of this dispute," said Permanent Representative of Dominica to the United Nations during the debates of the Committee.

The Dominican diplomat stressed "the importance of conducting a census of the population in Tindouf camps, in accordance with the international humanitarian law", while expressing the willingness of her country to support this census.

She also voiced her country's support for the resumption of the dialogue led under the UN auspices, welcoming the holding of the two round-table meetings in Geneva with the participation of Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania and Polisario, and the commitment of all participants to meet for a third round-table.

"Dominica expresses its support for the political process under way, which aims to achieve a just, durable and mutually acceptable political solution," she concluded
