European Parliament Thwarts Malicious Attempt to Treat Moroccan Sahara Separately in EU's Neighborhood Policy
3/5/2019

The European Parliament's foreign Affairs committee rejected, on Monday in Brussels, an amendment hostile to Morocco, which had been introduced by the green group, aimed at treating the Moroccan Sahara separately in the European Union's neighborhood policy.

The amendment to this text on the implementation of the Neighborhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument examined by this parliamentary committee, which decides on substantive issues regarding the EU's international relations, was rejected by a large majority.

According to parliamentary sources in Brussels, this was the umpteenth attempt by the enemies of Morocco's territorial integrity that was nipped in the bud, thanks to the vigilance and mobilization of Moroccan diplomacy, but also to the high sense of responsibility of European MPs who remain strongly committed to partnership with the Kingdom.

Morocco is one of the main beneficiaries of the European Neighborhood Policy (ENP), which aims to strengthen prosperity, stability and security in the Union's neighboring countries based on common values such as democracy, good governance, market economy principles and sustainable development.
