Laayoune Sakia-El Hamra Council Unanimously Supports New Morocco-EU Fisheries Agreement

The members of the Laayoune Sakia-El Hamra Council unanimously announced on Wednesday their support for the new fisheries agreement initialed by Morocco and the European Union (EU). This support was expressed during an extraordinary session chaired by the president of the region, Sidi Hamdi Ould Errachid, in the presence of the wali of Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra, governor of the province of Laayoune, Yahdih Bouchab.

The session was devoted to assessing the positive impact of the new Morocco-EU fisheries agreement on the socio-economic development of the region. On this occasion, the Council noted having taken note of the provisions of the new Morocco-EU fisheries agreement, while reaffirming its commitment to the partnership between the two parties in the maritime fishing sector.


It also confirmed its readiness to contribute to the promotion of this partnership, which is in line with the region's development plans and the sectoral national strategies in this area, particularly the "Halieutis Plan".


In this regard, the Council expressed its support for the Government's efforts to further consolidate the cooperation between the Kingdom and EU and strengthen the existing partnership in the field of maritime fisheries, in order to support the economic development of the region, contribute to its ongoing momentum and serve the interest of the population and economic actors.


In the same vein, the Council welcomed the positive economic impact and the important social impact of this agreement, recalling in particular the improvement provisions aimed at maximizing benefits for the local populations. areas concerned.


The latter will benefit from the socio-economic benefits of the agreement, particularly in terms of infrastructure, basic social services, business creation, vocational training, development projects and modernization of fishing sector, said the same source, adding that this agreement is in harmony with the partnership between the two parties and axes of the Halieutis Plan .


In this regard, the Council described as historic ties between Morocco and Europe, highlighting pioneering role played by the Kingdom in promoting relations between the EU and the countries of the South. On Monday, the Council of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region also expressed unanimous support for the sea fishing agreement between Morocco and the EU.
