In Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, the new Coronavirus (Covid-19) has weighed heavily on tourism, one of the pillars of the regional economy.

Less than 20 pc of the population of the Tindouf camps in southern Algeria is of Sahrawi origin, said Hamada El Bihi, a Moroccan citizen who was detained for 40 years in these camps of shame before returning to the mother country.

Shaibata Mrabih Rabou, President of the Sahara Center for Studies and Research on Development and Human Rights, has underlined that Algeria is responsible for the persistence of the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, as it defends head-on the obsolete referendum option, which the Security Council has definitively discarded since 2001.
