The Spanish government's position on the Moroccan Sahara, recognizing the pre-eminence of the autonomy plan as "the most serious, realistic and credible basis" for resolving this artificial dispute, has been welcomed by prominent Spanish personalities, politicians and high-level diplomats.

The autonomy plan, presented by Morocco to resolve the dispute over the Sahara, remains "the only truly realistic solution," said Jorge Dezcallar, former Spanish ambassador to Morocco and former director of the Spanish National Intelligence Center.

The Union of the Comoros on Thursday reaffirmed its "unwavering and unconditional" support for the Moroccanness of the Sahara and the autonomy plan as the "only solution" to settle the regional dispute over the Sahara, welcoming Spain's recent "far-sighted" stance on this issue.
